Tesla v.s. Waymo - Scalability, UE, Cost, etc

In the rapidly evolving landscape of autonomous driving, Tesla and Waymo are at the forefront, each pursuing distinct strategies to revolutionize transportation. As Tesla and Waymo continue to innovate, their differing approaches to autonomous driving and RoboTaxi services highlight the dynamic nature of this transformative industry.

Comparison of Tesla FSD and Waymo

As of today, we believe Waymo is at the forefront of the global autonomous driving field. Their RoboTaxi operations in San Francisco have become profitable, marking a significant breakthrough in Level 4 (L4) autonomous driving. This is likely due in part to the higher ride costs in San Francisco, with Waymo's fares being 1.5 times that of Uber. Despite their higher hardware costs, they remain profitable due to the overall high ride costs in the U.S. Furthermore, the vehicles used by Waymo, such as Jaguars, are spacious and do not require a driver, providing users with a more comfortable experience

In contrast, Tesla has not yet achieved Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities. Although they claim to be nearing human-level performance, the gap remains substantial. Tesla still requires drivers to remain attentive while using FSD, while Waymo has been able to eliminate the need for a driver. This distinction highlights the difference between human driving and Level 4 autonomy.
