GPT-5.2: Paving Way for Enterprise Adoption Acceleration

FUNDA·December 15, 2025

GPT-5.2's long-context, structured outputs tune for Excel/regulated sectors, speeding enterprise monetization.

Looking beyond poor consumer feedback

From external feedback, GPT-5.2 has received relatively good evaluations for its performance on complex multi-step tasks, long-context understanding, structured outputs, and tool- and coding-centric workflows. It feels more like a model that can “get things done reliably.” At the same time, it is widely perceived as slower in reasoning mode and more restrained in tone, with reduced appeal in creative writing and emotional interaction. Some users describe it as somewhat rigid, arguably reflecting over-post-training optimization aimed at maximizing benchmark scores.

From a technical evolution perspective, GPT-5.2 is the first genuinely new pre-training-based model since 4o. It is larger in scale and more native multimodal—capabilities that were originally expected to debut with GPT-5, but were reportedly delayed by several months due to internal disruptions, including talent attrition following Meta’s hiring push. However, because the release timeline was extremely compressed, the primary objective appears to have been rapidly responding to competitive pressure from Gemini 3, rather than delivering a research-driven leap. As a result, GPT-5.2 shows limited investment in mid-training and reinforcement learning, relying instead on targeted benchmark tuning and engineering-level optimizations.
